Rules and Regulations

  1. Articles to be in new condition, and be exhibitor's own work.
  2. Articles may be shown for 2 years only.
  3. Both creativity and technical skills are to be considered in the judging.
  4. One article only to be entered by each exhibitor in numbered section.
  5. Articles should fit easily into glass cases.
  6. Please attach entry tags with safety pins.

Sewing Section

  1. Lady's or Man's apron

  3. Going green, article sewn from recycled material(s) - creativity as well as handwork to be judged

OAAS Quilt Competitions Rules for Hand Quilted Quilts and Machine Quilted Quilt/Wall Hanging

The exhibitor of the Grand Champion Hand Quilt and the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Machine Quilted Quilt/Wall Hanging are eligible to enter their quilts or wall hanging in the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (O.A.A.S.) competition. To enter this competition, the Grand Champion Quilts/ Wall Hanging must compete in the District 13 Quilting Competitions in November. The first prize quilts/ wall hanging from the District Competition are then entered in the O.A.A.S. Competition which is held
at the O.A.A.S. Annual Convention in Toronto in February. The entries judged BEST OF SHOW at the convention will be declared the O.A.A.S CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT and the O.A.A.S. CHAMPION MACHINE QUILTED QUILT/WALL HANGING. A $500.00 GRAND PRIZE will be awarded and the O.A.A.S. Championship Hand Quilt and the exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt. A certificate and ribbon will be awarded to the winner. There will be a 2nd place prize of $100.00 awarded to the Runner-up Quilt and the exhibitor will retain ownership. A Grand Champion prize wil be awarded to the O.A.A.S. Champion Machine Quilted Quilt/Wall Hanging, along with a certificate and ribbon, and ownership is retained. A Reserve Grand Champion prize will be awarded to the 2nd place Quilt/Wall Hanging and ownership is retained.

The exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the O.A.A.S. competition. The winning O.A.A.S. quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future District or O.A.A.S. competitions. The hand quilt must be a minimum of 324” measured on the perimeter, or the quilt will not be eligible to proceed to the next level of competitions. The quilt must be solely made and hand quilted by an individual. Machine quilted quilt/wall hanging is measured on perimeter. Total perimeter to be a minimum 192” (480 cm) - square or rectangle quilt/wall hanging must be solely made and machine quilted by an individual. Must have visible machine quilting. Short and long arm quilting are both eligible. NOTE - long arm quilts must be made and quilted by person exhibiting the quilt/wall hanging.

If an exhibitor wins the Grand Champion Quilt with the same quilt at more than one fair, the exhibitor must consider the Agricultural Society nearest his/her home Fair as the one from which the quilt will be sent to the District Competition. An exhibitor who wins more than one BEST OF SHOW title with a different quilt at different fairs shall be entitled to enter each winning quilt to compete at the District Competition.

The local Homecraft Division is requested to judge a GRAND CHAMPION and RESERVE CHAMPION HAND QUILT from all eligible first and second prize quilts, as well as a GRAND CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION MACHINE QUILTED QUILT/WALL HANGING from all eligible first and second place entries.
