Class Three - Baking Specials

  • Prizes no. 1 thru 13 - $10, $6, $4
  • ** NOTE: First prize becomes property of the sponsor if desired. However, all prizes must be picked up no later than 4:45 p.m. by sponsors. First prize items will not be delivered to sponsors.
  • Pies must be approximately 9" on a foil plate.
  • All tarts, brownies and squares are to be displayed on a plate

  2. Bob Hope - Pecan Tarts -5
  3. Allan Jones - Butterscotch Brownies, uniced - 5 pieces 1 ½” square
  4. Joe Facey - Chocolate Chip Cookies - 5
  5. Jim McCutcheon - MILK SPECIAL, slice of baked cheesecake, 3" size at crust edge, any flavour. Director requests prominent display of cream cheese wrapper.
  6. Robert Duffin - Blueberry Pie
  7. Dan Jones - Pecan Pie
  8. Jim Fox -Cherry Lattice Pie
  9. Thorndale Pro Hardware, Don & Karen Bentum - 6 date squares 1 1/2" square
  10. Ted Bestard - Peach Pie
  11. Jim Poel - Butter Tarts with raisins and nuts
  12. Matt Langford Insurance (Oxford Mutual) - Carrot Cake, iced
  13. Heeman’s Strawberry Farm - Strawberry Pie, glazed

Country Pie Contest

Directors: Elizabeth Facery, Kelly Armstrong

**Points do not count toward Homecraft Queen**

There are 4 categories:

  1. Single crust pie (no pumpkin)
  2. Double crust fruit pie
  3. Twice the Fun, 2 double crust pies each entered by a different family member but must be the same style of crust eg. both double crust or both lattice top eg. Grandparent & Grandchild or Parent & Child or Husband & Wife - NOTE - Prize money will be paid to each of the exhibitors in the category - see Rule # 11
  4. Novice entry - double crust fruit pie. (a novice must be a first time exhibitor in the country pie contest.)

Please note:

  1. No meringue, cream, sour cream or custard pies.
  2. All entries must be approximately 9" on a foil pie plate.
  3. Open to all age groups, including men, women and children.
  4. Pies must be submitted in a proper size clear plastic bag, perferably a ziploc bag.
  5. Please label pies as to kind.
  6. Pies must be submitted cold for judging by 12 noon, Friday, Sept. 19, 2008.
  7. All entries become property of the Thorndale Fair Board.
  8. All pie entries will be taste tested.
  9. An exhibitor may enter in one or more categories.
  10. The top 3 prize winning pies in each category will be auctioned on Friday Evening at the Variety Night in the Community Centre.
  11. The remainder of the pies will be sold following the variety program.
  12. Prize money to be awarded as follows: in each of the 4 categories 1st, $25; 2nd, $20; 3rd, $15.
Grand Champion ribbon to be awarded to1st place winner in all categories.
First prize winner in each class receives a bag of flour donated by Arva Flour Mills.
