2009"After the Fair" Photo Competition

  • Competition open to anyone
  • For Pictures taken at this Year's Fair
  • Separate from Homecraft's Class 7

Objectives

  1. To publicize the activities of the Thorndale Agricultural Society.
  2. To promote interest in exhibiting through photography.
  3. To share new and different ideas with other Societies.
  4. To establish a supply of coloured photos for the Thorndale Agricultural Society.

Rules and Regulations:

  1. All photos must be taken at the 2009 Thorndale Fall Fair.
  2. Photo prints are 4" x 6" or 5" x 7".
  3. All prints must be mounted on white bristol board with a 1" border.
  4. All prints must be accompanied by the negative strip (do not separate single negative) or a CD disc with all images downloaded which will be returned to the exhibitor after judging.
  5. All prints will become the property of the Thorndale Agricultural Society.
  6. Exhibitor may enter only one print in each section.
  7. Each entry must be identified on back of bristol board with exhibitor's name, address, phone number, section number, and description.
  8. Judging will be done by a committee approved by the Thorndale Agricultural Society executive.
  9. Winning prints will be transferred to slide format and will be sent to the O.A.A.S. (Ontario Association of Agriculutral Societies) Convention.
  10. No professional photographers permitted
  11. Absolutely no digital image enhancing allowed.
  12. All entries must be sent to Nancy Urquhart, R.R. #2 Thorndale, ON N0M 2P0 --No later than November 1st, 2008.

Section

Human Involvement

  1. Youth participation - i.e. exhibit/ display (ribbons won, etc)
  2. Adult/Senior involvement - i.e. working/ displays/ enjoying
  3. CANDID shot of people having fun at your fair
  4. CANDID shot of someone too pooped to participate anymore

Displays

  1. Your idea of a most unusual display at fair.
  2. 4-H involvement at your fair - i.e. livestock/ displays
  3. Homecraft at your fair - i.e. dislays/ demonstrations/ etc
  4. Live action shows - i.e. singers/ pulls/ demo's/ demolition

Animals

  1. Livestock - i.e. displays/ shows/ demo's
  2. Pet show - your interpretation of what you see
  3. Live Demo's - i.e. blacksmith/ sheep shearing/ etc
  4. Birds/Small Animals - i.e. bird show/ rabbits/ etc

Promotional

  1. Showing Fair identification - i.e. displays/ ribbons/ etc
  2. Fair Ambassador involvement - i.e. displays / signs / etc
  3. Thorndale Fair Theme "Sowing Seed, Sewing Traditions" (theme must be visible)
  4. Quilts/Handcrafts at your fair - from your viewpoint

Other

  1. Children at your fair
  2. People with creatures and critters at your fair
  3. Something "new" this year at the Fair

Basis of Judging

40 points Quality of Photography - Focused, angle of shot, correct lighting
40 points Content of Picture - Representative of category? Appeal to viewer? Identifiable as a fair scene?
20 points Educational Value - Does it inform the viewer?

 

Prizes: 1st - $5; 2nd $3; 3rd - $2
